DIALOGUE, NOT BLOCKADE: ABUJA CONTINENTAL HOTEL SLAMS TUC’s “RECKLESS ” GATE SHUTDOWN, VOWS GUESTS ’ SAFETY & FIVE-STAR SERVICE INTACT

GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–THE Management of Abuja Continental Hotel has doubled down on dialogue over disruption, condemning Monday’s blockade of its premises by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on August 24, 2026.
Reacting, _Niyi Agoro, Cluster Director, Human Resources, Continental Hotel Group,_ said the hotel remains a responsible corporate citizen committed to protecting guests, staff and partners.
“As a responsible corporate organisation, dialogue is always better than confrontation. We believe in openness, mutual respect and following due process,” Agoro said.
He revealed that after receiving the TUC’s August 3 letter, Management replied immediately and proposed a meeting to thrash out all issues.
“TUC never replied, never gave another date. Their next move was to block our gates on Monday,” he said.
Agoro branded the action “wholly unnecessary, condemnable and reckless,” stressing it caused revenue loss and panic among in-house guests.
“Blocking a five-star hotel is not how you resolve industrial issues. Responsible labour relations demand maturity and restraint,” he added.
Despite the incident, Agoro assured that Abuja Continental Hotel’s operations remain uninterrupted.
*Reassurance to Guests and Global Clients*
Addressing event planners, diplomatic missions, government institutions and global brands, Agoro delivered an unequivocal message of confidence.
“Our message is clear: Abuja Continental Hotel remains open, stable, resilient and fully committed to serving you,” he said. “We understand the immense responsibility entrusted to us when clients choose our hotel to host events of national, diplomatic, corporate and international significance. We do not take that responsibility lightly.”
He noted that Monday’s incident has only reinforced Management’s determination to strengthen systems, protect business continuity, and maintain the trust of stakeholders.
“We are confident in the future of the hotel, confident in our people, and confident in our capacity to continue delivering the exceptional standards expected of one of Nigeria’s leading five-star hospitality brands,” Agoro added.
*Dialogue as the Path Forward*
The HR Director emphasized that sustainable relationships — with employees, labour unions, government agencies, corporate clients and the media — must be founded on communication, transparency and mutual respect.
“Management will therefore continue to pursue constructive dialogue with all relevant stakeholders,” he said. “At the same time, we will not compromise the safety of our guests and employees, the integrity of our operations, or the legitimate interests of our business.”
“Our objective is not confrontation. Our objective is resolution — but resolution through responsible, lawful and constructive engagement. Dialogue must never be displaced by intimidation, obstruction or disruption.”
Agoro concluded by reassuring Nigeria’s growing community of corporate and leisure guests that Abuja Continental Hotel remains the preferred destination for luxury, business and MICE events.
“We remain open to dialogue. We remain open for business. And we remain committed to delivering the world-class hospitality experience Abuja Continental is known for.”
