In a stern public notice issued Monday, August 14, the Council warned parents, guardians and admission seekers to steer clear of unaccredited institutions, insisting that graduates from unapproved Law programmes will NEVER be admitted into the Nigerian Law School.
The CLE declared that only universities accredited by it are legally authorized to run the LL.B programme, warning that any institution admitting students illegally is violating the law and risks heavy sanctions.
The Council also blacklisted several universities currently placed on moratorium, meaning they are temporarily banned from admitting new Law students.

Baze University, Abuja, was placed under a three-year moratorium covering the 2023/2024 to 2025/2026 academic sessions. Lead City University, Ibadan, has a five-year moratorium covering 2023/2024 to 2027/2028, while the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, is under a two-year moratorium covering the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 sessions.
The council said the restrictions were approved by its governing body.

The Council of Legal Education said the list would be updated when necessary in line with its statutory responsibility of regulating legal education in Nigeria.
It urged prospective Law students to verify the accreditation status of any university before accepting admission to avoid enrolling in programmes that would not qualify them for entry into the Nigerian Law School.
