GREATRIBUNTVNEWS–Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, has ignited controversy once again with her comments about Nigeria.
In her first speech of the year, at an event organised by Onward, a British think tank producing research on economic and social issues, Badenoch expressed her desire for Britain not to become like Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of building trust and reforming the system .
“And why does this matter so much to me? It’s because I know what it is like have something and then to lose it. I don’t want Britain to lose what it has”
Badenoch, who was born in Wimbledon, London, to Nigerian parents, shared her personal experience of growing up in Nigeria and witnessing her relatively wealthy family become poorer despite their hard work . She stressed that she doesn’t want Britain to lose its advantages, implying that Nigeria’s economic and social challenges could be replicated in the UK if reforms are not implemented.
However, Badenoch’s comments have been met with criticism, with some accusing her of making negative remarks about her country of heritage. Her views have sparked a heated debate, with some Nigerians expressing disappointment and others defending her right to express her opinions .
As the leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, Badenoch’s comments have significant implications for her party’s stance on issues like immigration, economic development, and social justice. Her remarks have also raised questions about her connection to her Nigerian heritage and her role in shaping the UK’s relationship with Nigeria and other African countries.
