Dangote Group, on Thursday, said the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has yet to commence the lifting of premium motor spirit, also known as petrol, from its refinery.
Dangote Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, said in a statement that the company is yet to finalise its contract with the NNPC.
The statement said, “We would like to state that NNPC has not commenced lifting of refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from our Dangote petroleum refinery.
“Therefore, the issue of fixing the price of petrol lifted from our refinery does not arise, as we are yet to finalise our contract with NNPC.”
The company said the petrol market is strictly regulated, and as such, it can not determine, fix or influence the product price which falls under the purview of relevant government authorities.
It assured Nigerians of high-quality petroleum products, which will be available across the country.
On Tuesday, Chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote officially announced the commencement of petrol production at his refinery.
This is coming months after its initial announcement to begin production of the commodity.
On May 18, Dangote said the refinery would commence petrol production in June, adding that Nigeria would not have to import the product again, however, production was postponed.
