LAGOS LAWMAKERS IMPEACH SPEAKER OBASA AMID MULTI-BILLON-NAIRA FRAUD ALLEGATIONS

GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–In a shocking move, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, citing multiple statutory and financial infractions . Obasa’s impeachment comes on the heels of allegations of misappropriating public funds, including a reported N43.5 billion withdrawn for backup vehicles for lawmakers .
Obasa’s deputy, Lasbat Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1, has taken over as the new speaker. Meranda, a former chief whip of the House, is expected to bring stability and transparency to the Assembly .
This development is not Obasa’s first brush with controversy. In 2020, he was accused of misappropriating public funds and was even questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) . Obasa has consistently denied all allegations against him.
