GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has granted bail to Naomi Silekunola, ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, owner of Agidigbo FM, and Abdullahi Fasasi, Principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun. Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin pronounced the ruling on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Oriyomi Hamzat was granted a N10 million bail with two sureties, and his organization, Agidigbo FM, was prohibited from broadcasting news related to the case. The defendants had argued their bail applications before the court last Tuesday, with their defense team claiming they didn’t pose a flight risk and were willing to cooperate with the investigation.
However, the Oyo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abiodun Aikomo, opposed the bail application, citing the seriousness of the charges and the need to ensure justice for the victims and their families. The defendants were arrested in connection with a stampede at a children’s festive party in December 2024, which resulted in the deaths of at least 35 children at the Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan .
