GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of 13 persons in a road accident that occurred on Saturday at Abule Panu before Ose Bridge, on Owo-Ikare highway in Ondo State.
According to Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, Sector Commander, FRSC, Ondo State, the accident involved two passenger buses. “The fatal crash, which occurred at about 10:14 am, claimed the lives of 13 commuters in two buses,” he said.
Ibitoye explained that a total of 14 people were involved in the accident, with 13 burnt beyond recognition and only one rescued alive with serious injuries. He attributed the cause of the accident to a tyre burst, which led to the loss of control and a resultant head-on collision between the two buses.
Eyewitnesses reported that immediately after the collision, the two buses went up in flames. The FRSC, Police, and Fire Service teams were quickly deployed to the scene for rescue operations.
The injured victim was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, while the dead were deposited at the morgue of the same hospital. The FRSC boss advised drivers to exercise patience on the roads and maintain their vehicles properly. He also encouraged passengers to speak out against dangerous driving, emphasizing that road safety is a concern for all.
