GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–In a landmark ruling, a Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced four drug kingpins to 28 years in prison, with hard labor, for their involvement in the historic seizure of 2,139.55 kilograms of cocaine in 2022 . The convicts, Soji Oke, 71; Wasiu Akinade, 55; Emmanuel Chukwu, 67; and Kelvin Christopher Smith, 44, a Jamaican, were found guilty of conspiracy, management, and financing of a drug trafficking organization, among other charges.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of their luxury properties, including a house in Victoria Garden City (VGC) Estate, Lagos, and a grey Toyota Tacoma SUV, as well as millions of dollars and naira in cash. The Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), hailed the ruling as a historical blow to drug cartels, warning that they will not only face jail time but also lose their ill-gotten wealth and properties.
