The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has categorically denied reports that it has directed the halt of gas supply to power generating companies (GENCOs) due to unpaid debts.
According to the NMDPRA, this claim is “false and completely unfounded” .
The Authority clarified that a recent stakeholders’ engagement in Lagos was aimed at sensitizing stakeholders on the implementation of the wholesale supply license, as provided by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021. The NMDPRA reassured the public that it is committed to ensuring seamless and uninterrupted supply and distribution of natural gas and petroleum products to end-users, especially during the festive season and into 2025 .
The denial comes amidst concerns over the reliability of power supply in Nigeria, with some commentators questioning the government’s commitment to resolving the issue .
