NIGERIA’S ADEMOLA ADEYEMI-BERO APPOINTED OPEC BOARD CHAIRMAN FOR 2025

The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has appointed Nigeria’s Ademola Adeyemi-Bero as Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors for 2025.
This appointment was confirmed at the 189th (Ordinary) virtual meeting of the OPEC Conference .
Adeyemi-Bero’s elevation is seen as a testament to Nigeria’s active contributions to the global oil industry and reaffirms the country’s leadership in the global energy sector. As Chairman, he will play a crucial role in shaping global energy policies and advocating for balanced energy policies that benefit oil producers, consumers, and the global economy.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, hailed Adeyemi-Bero’s appointment, expressing gratitude to Amb. Gabriel Aduda, the outgoing Nigerian OPEC Governor, for his exemplary service .
Other key decisions made at the OPEC Conference include:
– *Extension of Tenure*: Haitham Al Ghais’s tenure as OPEC Secretary-General has been extended for another three years, effective August 1, 2025.
– *Alternate Chairman*: Mr. Adeeb Al-Aama, Governor of Saudi Arabia for OPEC, has been appointed as the Alternate Chairman of the Board of Governors for 2025.
