NJC SANCTIONS FIVE JUDGES FOR MISCONDUCT, RETIRES IMO CJ AND YOBE GRAND KADI

GREATTRIBUNETVNEWS–National Judicial Council (NJC) has taken decisive action against five serving judges for various acts of misconduct ¹. At its 107th meeting, the NJC suspended two judges and recommended two others for compulsory retirement due to age falsification.
Judges Suspended:
– _Justice G. C. Aguma_: Suspended for one year without pay and placed on watch list for two years for aiding a litigant and failing to raise queries on garnishee proceedings.
– _Justice A. O. Nwabunike_: Suspended for one year without pay and placed on watch list for two years for breaching judicial conduct rules and abusing judicial powers.
*Judges Retired:*
– _Justice T. E. Chukwuemeka Chikeka_: Chief Judge of Imo State, recommended for compulsory retirement due to age falsification.
– _Kadi Babagana Mahdi_: Grand Kadi of Yobe State, recommended for compulsory retirement due to age falsification.
Additionally, the NJC issued cautionary letters to two judges and dismissed several petitions lacking merit. The Council also recommended 36 candidates for judicial appointment to various state governors.
