NEW TERRORIST GROUP “LUKARAWAS” EMERGES IN NIGERIA’S NORTHWEST-DEFENCE HQRTS

GREATRIBUNTVNEWS–Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has confirmed the presence of a new terrorist group, “Lukarawas,” in Sokoto and Kebbi states, further escalating security challenges in the Northwest .This development comes after the Sokoto State Government raised concerns about the emergence of another terrorist group in the state.
Director, Defence Media Operations Maj.Gen.Edward Buba, who disclosed this during a press briefing at Defence Headquarters, Abuja said the terrorists had since been kept at bay by the joint security forces.
Terrorism in the Lake Chad Region
The Lake Chad region, spanning across Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon, faces a complex security situation. Despite a decrease in terrorism, experts warn that this trend may be short-lived . Persistent attacks from groups like Boko Haram and its offshoots, Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunnah Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS) and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), have plagued the region.
Regional Terrorist Groups:
– _Boko Haram_: Active in Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon
– _Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunnah Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS)_: Operational in Nigeria, Niger, and Chad
– _Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP)_: Present in Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon

– _Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF)_: A regional military coalition combating Boko Haram and its affiliates
– _Chadian Military Operations_: Targeting terrorist groups in the Lake Chad region
– _Nigerian Military Operations_: Focused on neutralizing terrorist threats in the Northwest and Northeast regions
The situation remains fluid, with ongoing efforts aimed at sustaining regional cooperation and effective counter-terrorism strategies .
Among the terrorists declared wanted by the General include: Dadi Gumba, Usman Kanin Shehu, Abu Yusuf amongst others
