FG Sacks Amobi,Appoints Eweluka As New MD NBET
As part of measures aim at repositioning the power sector for a better performance, the Mnister of power ,Engr Mammn Sule has sacked the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading [NBET] Dr Marilyn Amobi, barely a month after the sack of Usman Mohammed Gur, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN.
Amobi was replaced by Dr. Nnaemeka Eweluka, the company’s General Counsel and Secretary. The former MD of NBET was previously sacked on December 24, 2019 on the grounds of corruption and misappropriation of funds but later reversed.
The Minister of Power in a statement signed by its Special Adviser Media & Communications, Aaron Artimas, made it known that Amobi is to handover and proceed on terminal leave with immediate effect.
In his words, “In furtherance of the reorganization/ realignments in the Power Sector, the Honourable Minister of Power Engr. Sale Mamman announces the appointment of a new Managing Director for the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, PLC. He is Dr. Nnaemeka Eweluka, the company’s General Counsel and Secretary.”
“He is to succeed Dr. Marilyn Amobi, as substantive Managing Director/CEO, while the former MD is to handover and proceed on terminal leave with immediate effect. President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier approved the recommendation to this effect”
Dr. Eweluka, a lawyer comes to this position with over twenty years’ experience, spanning private practice, academics and the Power sector. He is a specialist on privatization and legal energy reforms as well as a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitration.
His appointment shows that the government is committed to revamp the power sector including its promise to ensure that sanity is brought to the system in order to put virile structures in place
